Oh Baby Please Don’t Go

Baby, please don’t go
Baby, please don’t go
Baby, please don’t go, down to New Orleans
You know I love you so

Sorry Lightnin’ old pal. I have a VIP pass for the Jazz Fest on Sunday, so I will have to decline that request.

I’m heading to NOLA tomorrow to spend a few days in The Crescent City. I will unfortunately be airborne during Liverpool’s probable loss on penalties to The Second Most Evil Empire in the FA Cup Final so I’m counting on folks to update me via Twitter. (@niilolainen)

I have a work related conference to go to on Tuesday and Wednesday next week, but before then I’ll have Saturday evening, plus all day Sunday and Monday to explore the city.

Sunday 11am to 7pm will be taken up by the final day of the 2012 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. There is a bewildering array of acts on umpteen stages, so the major challenge seems to be choosing what to see. Kermit Ruffins is a no brainer as I am currently addicted Treme (only disappointment will be that Davis Macalary and Antoine Baptiste are unlikely to sit in, their availability being limited due to being fictional characters), but then beyond that things get difficult. Bonnie Raitt or The Foo Fighters? etc. and so on.

Sunday evening will be dinner somewhere in the French Quarter or The Treme itself I guess. Monday is wide open (except it seems like my boss may need me to do some powerpoint wrangling for him).

I am really thrilled to be visiting what is unequivocally one of the world’s great cities.
