So here we are

Inspired by my pal Cyclostyle, and my Missus, who blogs for family consumption (pictures of the kids, our dog with a witch’s hat on, pictures of desserts and deserts she likes, pretty flowers, etc.), for some reason I thought it would be a good idea to start a blog. Again. This must be my third since the heady days of Web 2.0 swept over us in about 2005. Oh dear. Will I ever learn?

But here I am. What should I write about?

Good blogs, such as the two mentioned above, are thematically linked. I find myself at this time of life spending an inordinate amount of time thinking about guitars and music. The title “axestogrind” gives flexibility to write about these topics and probably whatever else I want.

I expect that initially I will write a lot about guitars. Last year I spent a great deal of time researching and shopping for a relatively high-end acoustic for my 40th birthday present. I ended up with a magnificent Breedlove. Now I am thinking– much to my wife’s concern– “What’s next?”.

I don’t know the answer to that question, but I think I am going to enjoy the process of finding out nearly as much as I am playing the eventual purchase. To me, guitars are magical objects, imbued with power and charisma. Even the cheap ones.

Just one note of clarification. I make no claim to be an expert on guitars or even to be a very good player. This will be a journey of discovery for me. I will do my research and post my thoughts here. If I am off base, then I won’t mind polite comments pointing this out (in fact I will be delighted to have any readership at all), but incivility will not be tolerated.

Anyway here goes. See you at the first post.

  1. Good for you – don’t let the blog fade, though it’s tough to keep going sometimes! I’ll be reading. Oh and thanks for the mention.

    • I’ve really enjoyed reading your blog, so I thought I’d have a go. I think your passion for the bike really shines through. It’s inspiring.

I’ve really really got back into guitars in the last couple of years, so this seems like a natural starting point. Need to review the template and stick some photos in though!

(by the way- over the Christmas break I finally had time to read a book for the first time in 2011. Chose Slaying The Badger. Fantastic stuff. Thanks a lot!)
